Everything that had entered [Valjean’s] life in the past six months brought him back to the saintly interjections of the Bishop, Cosette through love and the convent through humility.
The new life they have here at the convent is simple but just what Cosette and Valjean need. For an hour every morning they enjoy each others company and they no longer fear Javert or the Thenardiers. They have found peace, even if it is in a place full of restrictions of it’s own kind.
Valjean is coming back into the sort of place we saw him before. he is at peace. He is happy. He is whole. Cosette is in a better place as well. The darkness that had beset her earlier is now cleared, and she is leaerning to laugh and play.
We end the chapter with a note that says the years passed and Cosette grew into girlhood. How long will this respite last?
